Emergency & Critical Care 102: Blood Gas Analysis, Fluid Therapy, Sedation, and Pain Control
This course is a follow-on to Emergency and Critical Care 101. It begins with an introduction to blood gas analysis including two methods of identifying the acid-base disturbance, differentials for various types of acid-base disturbances, the utility of blood gas evaluation in critically sick and injured patients, and utility in developing fluid therapy plans. The fluid therapy section will discuss fluid types, the fluid prescription, and will briefly touch on blood products and blood transfusions. The course will finish with a section dedicated to multimodal pain control and sedation protocols for critically sick or injured patients.
While completing Emergency and Critical Care 101 is not required, it is recommended as the principles covered in this certificate course build on the principles covered in Emergency and Critical Care 101.
